The evening on Monday, August 29, 2011 at The Orchard Church on Mac. Loughlin Drive feautured a range of activities and events aimed at bringing members of the community together. Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Sikh Society Lehmber Singh said the event was about showcasing the growing Sikh community and their culture and a chance for the community to learn more about Sikh ways of life.
There were some faboulous Indian - Bollywood and Punjabi Bhangra dances done by the Fairhaven School students, lead by Mrs Hunt, dance teacher of the school. The unique thing was the students included both local Indian and Kiwi kids, showing a great example of harmony in the community. Other young participants also presented traditional dance and some great speeches about the Punjab and Punjabi culture, India 's love of cricket and the Taj Mahal. This was followed by a delicious tradional Indian dinner. As with all Living in Harmony nights, the event was free with a plate of food .
