Living in Harmony- Swiss evening, TRMC event 5th October 2011
Main Body
Swiss Evening is part of the Living in Harmony series that TRMC have been organising successfully for over four years with the aim to bring the culture of various ethnic groups to forefront. The idea of this evening was to get the Swiss Community of Tauranga to celebrate their culture, food and music. It was held at the 17th Avenue, Historic Village Hall . The Hall was transformed into a Swiss Village with colourful Swiss flags, bells horn and other Swiss artefacts. It was a very successful evening starting with a power point show on the History of Switzerland presented by Verena, one of the organisers of the evening, followed by a documentary showing the Alpine beauty and life in Switzerland and also the Carnival . This was followed by potluck dinner, fabulous Swiss chocolates and a wonderful spread of deserts from different parts of Switzerland. Several members of the community came dressed up in their traditional Swiss costumes and they sang Swiss songs. A very relaxed evening with everybody having a chance to mix and mingle, learn about Switzerland and make new friends.
