The street scene includes The Bank of New Zealand, a store advertising "Stop Valve" and a General Store. The roads are lined with telegraph cables and possibly power lines as well. There are both horse and carts (traps and buggies) on the street as well as early model automobiles. The first motor car to arrive in Te Puke was driven by Alf Brooks in 1903. The central islands in the middle of the wide streets have saplings growing within them and a similar photo of Te Puke with identical saplings is dated 1917 (REF:natlib.govt.nz:emu:PAColl-5007-1). Partial text at extreme left is known to read "C.F. Washer", "House Furnisher Iron Monger & Coach Builder". A slightly wider version was printed in the Auckland Weekly News on June 27, 1918.
