In 1944, Te Keepa Nuku (Te Patuwai) purchased the boat and named it Te Huinga after his mother’s unveiling (Te Huinga o te Hura Kōhatu o Ngahoe Rihara – The gathering of people for the unveiling of Ngahoe Rihara). To the left of the image there is slide coming down the bank, which was used to move maize onto the scow.
