SCHOOL TIMELINE

1933 - Miss O'Donnell [Headteacher] was a well known figure driving  her ‘Model T’ along the sandy corrugated roads.

1934 June - His  Excellency the Governor General,  Lord Bledisloe, visited the school — children were given a special holiday to mark the occasion.

1934 - Post Office Savings in school  began.

1937 - Milk in schools  began.

1936/37- Schools closed  over this time due to incidents of Infantile Paralysis.

1938 - Auckland  Education Board  called for tenders for the erection of 2 wooden open air classrooms and a teacher’s  residence.

Reminiscences of a Rugby Game

A rugby game of note was the occasion when the Mount travelled with Charlie Miller to play Papamoa Maori. The result of the game ended in  dispute.  The first  half  of the seven aside  battle was refereed  by the  Papamoa schoolmaster and the second half by Charlie Miller. With the sore at 3 all,  Cliff Buchanan towards the end of the game dropped a goal which Charlie signalled as over. The first half Ref.  charged onto the field disputing the decision and we left with  Papamoa still arguing the result.
