A series of 50 real photographs - White Island. White Island is an active Island Volcano situated in the Bay of Plenty, East Coast of the North Island. Attempts have been made to work the sulphur deposits, but they have failed. At the present time, a Company has recommenced operations and is understood to be making the venture a successful one, the sulphur being used chiefly for fertilizing purposes. The Launches shown in the picture are both privately owned pleasure boats. W. D. & H. O. Wills, Bristol & London. Donated by Mrs. Roberts whose husband was working on White Island in 1928.
