The Senior Division for Years 11-13 asks the question "Why should we commemorate the Battle of Gate Pa of 29 April 1864?" Prize for 1st place is $750 whilst prize for 2nd place is $250.
The Junior Division for Years 9-10 asks the question "What the Battle of Gate Pa means to me." Prize for 1st place is $350 whilst 2nd place is $150.
Essays are limited to 900 words or less.
Schools are invited to select their best essays in each division for the competition.

The winners will be announced on 22 April 2014 and presentations made to the winners at their school.
