The unit recorded 66 interviews in three years. This interview with Mrs Amelia Phillips (nee Youngson) is one of these. It was recorded at her home in Frazer Street, Tauranga. Amelia was born in Mauriceville on 18 February 1889 to Scottish parents John and Amelia Youngson. Amelia came to Tauranga with her parents in 1902 and the family settled on an orchard off Ngatai Road. Amelia married William Phillips in 1915 and they had four children. Amelia was widowed in 1925. For many years she took in boarders to supplement her pension. She was active in her community playing bowls as well as belonging to several organisation including the League of Mothers and Tauranga Senior Citizens. Amelia passed away in July 1992 aged 104.
