Interview with Mr Alf Baikie

Reference Number0148/19/12DescriptionBroadcaster and Village Radio volunteer, James Hartstonge, founded the Tauranga District Museum Oral History Unit in 1988. The unit recorded 66 interviews in three years. This interview with Mr Alf Baikie is one of these.

Alf Baikie arrived in Tauranga from the Orkney Islands in 1909 with his family. In 1923 he entered the cartage business and after joining Heaton’s Transport in 1932 he worked his way up to Managing Director.
