Broadcaster and Village Radio volunteer, James Hartstonge, founded the Tauranga District Museum Oral History Unit in 1988. The unit recorded 66 interviews in three years. This interview with Mrs Rata Roden (nee Lever)is one of these. It was recorded at her home in Elizabeth Street, Tauranga. The length of the initial recording is 46:16 minutes and continues onto a second recording that is 7:17 minutes.
Bessie Rata Lever (Rata) was born in 1908 to Alice and Harry Graham Lever. Rata trained as a nurse and married Alan Roden who died in WW2. She travelled widely, wrote newspaper articles and a book titled "Here There and Most Places".
