Collection SummaryThese photographs are made available as part of a collaboration between the 6th Battalion (Hauraki) Regimental Association Inc. and the Tauranga Central Library Heritage and Research team in 2012. The originals are held by the Association. Description6 Hauraki Battalion Group was formed on 9 July 1898 as the 2nd Battalion (Hauraki), Auckland Rifle Volunteers. With the introduction of Compulsory Military Training and the formation of the Territorial Force in 1911, the Battalion became sixth in the order of seniority. It retained this status with the formation of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment in April 1964. 6th Battalion (Hauraki) was unique among the Territorial Force battalions of the New Zealand Army in that it was the only one never to have been amalgamated. This changed in December 2012 when six Territorial Force (TF) RNZIR battalions amalgamated to form three new battalions.SourcesPae Korokī: 6th Battalion (Hauraki)The 6th Hauraki Battalion Association
