We the undersigned on behalf of the Tauranga Tradesmen Association wish to place on record a memento of your extreme kindness to us as citizens of this town, on this as on many other occasions you have thrown your beautiful grounds open to us, and invited is to make free use of the same, your hospitality also on more than one occasion has been lavishly extended to us. We now ask you to accept this testimonial, and gift, as a small token of our regard and esteem. Wishing you long life and prosperity we have the honour to be Yours Faithfully" A. Crapp was mentioned in chapter 16 of The New Zealand Wars: A History of the Māori Campaigns and the Pioneering Period: Volume II: The Hauhau Wars, (1864–72). He was a prominent figure in Tauranga.
