Originals of the manuscripts were held by Tauranga District Museum.
Rakapa Ngawai's ancestors arrived in the Tainui, Aotea, Taki-timu and Kura-haupo canoes.
John Cuthbert Adams was a builder and mayor of Tauranga, 1917-1919. He married Helen Edwards (daughter of John Edwards and Rakapa Ngawai at Holy Trinity Church, Tauranga, in 1882. See "Ohinemuri Regional History Journal", no.18, June 1974.
