The picture is glazed and has a gold coloured card matboard, and no backing board. The photograph has the photographer's details printed on the back of it, and was produced by Wigglesworth and Binns of Wellington.. The A.N. Brown Catalogue lists this picture as: "Portrait of unidentified woman in black velvet gown". There is another picture in the house that has an ivory frame similar to this one, it has a photograph of Euphemia and Andrew Maxwell in it. This photograph appears in Recollections and Reflections of an Old New Zealander, written by Ebenezer Maxwell, P.32. He identifies the woman as: "Mrs. A.J.
