Reference Number1972.0032DescriptionBlack and white print in a black frame. The print is of a lake scene with fields sloping down towards the lake in the foreground and mountains in the distance. In the lower left corner of the print is written in white what appears to say: "From a sketch by the Rev. J. Kinder 1862". Written in pencil on the mounting board is: "Piripai 1862". The photograph is mounted on card, and on the verso of the card is written in pen: "Kinder photo. - Based on painting in A.C.A.G.", and below this also in pencil: "Yes, R.J. Kean 11/7/70 - More likely Rev. Thomas Graces Pukawa Mission Station Lake Taupo?" On the back of the picture is a stamp: "TAURANGA PICTURE FRAMERS - 368 DEVONPORT ROAD - TAURANGA - PHONE 82-371". Also on the back, written in pencil is: "A. N. Brown Ph 2".. 3A states: "Rev. Thomas Grace's Pukawa Mission Station, Lake Taupo(?). Kinder (identification doubtful; may be a photograph of a painting). In the 1972 Catalogue of the A.N. Brown Collection, this photograph was recorded as a loose photograph.
