Reference Number2008.0014DescriptionA leather wallet frame with two photographs. The frame is made from a fine leather stained dark brown. It folds in half and opens like a book, with a window on each side for a photograph. The photograph on the right proper is a studio portrait of a woman seated, dressed in a gown with full sleeves and skirt in the style of the 1860's. The photograph is adhered to a white card, and on the back of the card is printed: "PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST - MISS CUMBER - GUERNSEY". The photograph on the lelt side is a studio portrait of a young girl seated in a carved wooden chair with her feet on a footstool. This photograph is also adhered to a white card, and written in pencil on the back of the card is: "Florence Norton". Folded up inside the frame is a note with: "My Mother and her Mother", written on it in blue pen, and an invoice for the interment 'of daughter', made out to George Norton. Part a leather wallet frame, part b note, part c invoice.. Although not recorded in The Elms Trust receipt book, it is likely this item was donated by Miss. G. Nevell the Grand daughter of Captain William Nevell, as the handwritten note is written in her hand. This would make Florence Norton her Mother, and Mary Ellis Jefferies her Grandmother.Physical DescriptionArt. Picture
