Reference Number2008.0018DescriptionA daguerreotype set in a case with a lid, made of wood covered with a fine brown bevelled leather on the outside, with a metal hook on the side to close. The inside of the case is lined with burgundy velvet, and the daguerreotype is mounted under a gold pressed metal surround with an oval shaped opening, and both are set under glass, with a gold coloured metal frame. The daguerreotype is black and white, and is a portrait of a woman from the waist up, with her hands clasped in front of her. A note found with the daguerreotype written in Miss. G. Nevell's hand, says that she believed this woman could be a member of the Nevell family.. Although not recorded in The Elms Trust receipt book, it is likely this item was donated by Miss. G. Nevell the Grand daughter of Captain William Nevell, as a note accompanying the daguerreotype was written in her hand.Physical DescriptionDocumentary Artifact. Daguerreotype
