The photograph is a studio portrait, and shows her seated in an unpholstered chair, with palm leaves to one side. The frame is a wooden frame painted cream, with a flat surface with corrugations running along each section. On the back of the frame is a white sticker with: "Miss Edith Jane Maxwell Auckland photo probably early 1890's (She left Wadestown 1887)", written on it, in what looks like Duff Maxwell's handwrting. The frame has a EHFHPT Inc sticker on the back of it.. Although listed in 3A as part of the Brown collection, with the known date of this photograph, it does not reflect the Brown occupation of the Elms.
