Maxwell in his ecclesiastical robes, and is covered with glass. The wooden frame has finely executed relief carving with art nouveau stylistic elements. There are other items in the house and library with a similar style of relief type carving - little tables and picture frames. This was a popular craft in the 1020's-30's for woman in New Zealand. The evidence is that Alice Maxwell engaged in this, which creates a very strong association of these items to The Elms.. This frame is the same style as other items in the house attributed to Alice Maxwell, by Ebenezer, and appears to have been carved by her.Physical DescriptionArt. Picture
