Datec. Early 1900'sReference Number2006.0768DescriptionBlack and white photographs of Barnardo's children in a wooden frame painted cream. There are 20 photographs in the frame and each is covered with an independent sheet of glass. The children are all boys, ranging in age from around 8 years to their early teens. All are dressed in costume from the turn of the 19th century, and are all standing in a similar pose, suggesting the photographs were taken by the same photographer. Found 03/03/2009, 2 carte-de-visites, 2 backing boards, and 2 pieces of glass that appear to belong to this picture. At the time of cataloguing there were missing glass pieces. The carte-de-visites have been numbered with part numbers, 2006.0768.1.a and b, and stored in Archival Box 31. The 2 glasses wrapped in tissue and numbered and stored with picture glass.. Alice and Euphemia Maxwell worked to raise money for Barnados for many years. Alice from her childhood through to her old age. An annual gathering was held at The Elms to raise funds and as the years passed these became large events, overflowing from the house to two large marquees on the lawn.
