Reference Number2008.0028DescriptionA daguerreotype set in a case with a lid, made of wood covered with a fine dark brown leather, imprinted with an ornate pattern on the top and bottom of the case. The case opens like a book and has 2 metal hooks on the side to close. The inside of the case is lined with a red velvet imprinted with a pattern of scrolls and flowers, with bowl on a pedestal holding fruit, in the centre. The daguerreotype is mounted under a gold metal surround with an oval opening, set under glass. The image is a of a dead child lying on dark coloured fabric, it is difficult to tell the age of the child from the image. This is the same image as 2008.0027, and inside the case is a piece of paper with: "Either Morrice of Alexander taken after death - Sons of Rev. A. Maxwell & his wife Euphemia"..
