The case opens like a book and has 2 metal hooks on the side to close. Inside the case are 2 daguerreotypes, one on each side, both mounted under a gold metal surround with an oval opening, set under glass, and an ornately decorated fine gold coloured metal frame around the edge of this on top of the glass. The images are studio portraits, the one on the right proper is Euphemia Ballinghall Maxwell holding her baby daughter Edith Jane in her arms, with her eldest son, Andrew James Maxwell standing on her left. On the left proper side the image is of Andrew Maxwell and his eldest daughter Euphemia. Inside the case is a note with: "Revd. A.
