The case opens like a book and has 2 metal hooks on the side to close. The inside of the case is lined with a crimson velvet, imprinted with a scroll design. The daguerreotype is mounted under a gold metal surround, set under glass, with a narrow gold coloured metal frame around the outside edge on top of the glass.
