Reference Number2008.0036DescriptionA daguerreotype set in a case with a lid, made of wood covered with a fine dark brown leather imprinted with an ornate floral design with scrolls. The case opens like a book and has 2 metal hooks on the side to close. Inside of the case on one side are 2 identical daguerreotypes of an unknown woman, mounted under a gold metal surround with 2 oval openings, set under glass, with a narrow gold coloured metal frame around the outside edge on top of the glass. On the opposite side of the case is a piece of card mounted on a hinge, that lifts up out of the case. The card is covered with a dark brown leatherette, and has two viewing holes cut in it set with glass, forming a stereoview for the images of the woman. Printed in gold below the veiwing windows is: "MASCHER'S IMPROVED STEREOSCOPE - PHILADA. - PATENT - MARCH 9TH 1853". A piece of paper inside the case has: "Given to DHM by MGM May 1974", witten on it.Physical DescriptionDocumentary Artifact. Daguerreotype
