Date1 July 2015Reference NumberPhoto 15-221DescriptionPhotograph of 26 Devonport Road, Tauranga, taken July 2015 by retiree Rodney T. Giddens as part of his photographic record of Tauranga CBD shop fronts with historic value. Given to Tauranga Library in 2018.
The image shows a single-storey retail building on the east side of Devonport Road, comparable with nearby commercial buildings from the 1920s and 1930s. Visible signage includes “1932”, “Spark”, “Designer Direct”, “Brewers Den” and “iPlus”. The façade has plaster decoration, including a string-of-beads motif with a face as the centrepiece on the left and right, and a small central plaster motif without a name or date.
By 2021 the building had been painted white, the “1932” sign had been obliterated, and a Japanese cafe, “Kaytura”, occupied one of the premises. The building was demolished in 2021.FormatDigitalPhotographer/CreatorGiddens, RodneySourcesvisual check from street 2021
