This was the site of the Bellevue Hotel, erected by J Bodell in 1882, Tauranga businessman and borough Mayor 1888-1889. It was a private hotel i.e. did not have a liquor licence, in fact known at one time as the Temperance Hotel. It was leased in the early 1920s by John Gunn. For some years site has been occupied by the Mitsubishi agency for their office and car yard.
