Tauranga Business Recovery Package

Tauranga Chamber of Commerce today announced that it is working with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to develop recommendations around a potential package of assistance to businesses affected by the Rena incident.Chamber CEO Max Mason today said, "Many of our visitor based and commercial fishing businesses have already been hit hard by the Rena incident, and will need support if they are to survive. Suppliers to these industries also need to be factored in. We will be working with Tourism Bay of Plenty and representatives from the commercial fishing industry to develop recommendations on how government can assist them." A model is being developed to more clearly understand the number and scale of people affected. Visitor industry stakeholder meetings will be held on Tuesday and Thursday next week to get input, suggestions and feedback. Mr Mason said, "Naturally we need to factor-in further developments in relation to amount of oil spilled and the likely clean up time. Hopefully the scale of the environmental impact will become clearer next week, and we can move quickly in developing some recommendations to assist our businesses."Other support available through the Chamber includes:
