Wainuiomata to Vegas - The eBook

DateSeptember 2021Description"Wainuiomata to Vegas - The Gunnar Jackson Boxing Journey" came to life, as I wanted to share with Gunnar's family and friends, his incredible journey that harks back to the old fashioned boxing warriors of the 1940's and 1950's, in New Zealand.

The Kiwi professional boxers of the forties and fifties wouldn't shy away from the challenges presented to them, fronting up across the country, from town halls to open-air venues. Gunnar lived up to that mantle - never afraid to square off with a hometown hero on their turf or travel overseas to square off with all comers.

Forty-six fights without touching the canvas is an incredible achievement built upon a big heart, self belief and outstanding fitness, which carried Gunnar 'The Stunna' Jackson to heights he could only have dreamed about at the start of his career.

This narrative is also about friendship in spades. Friendship between boxer, coach and manager glued the three together for nearly a decade. My friendship with Chris Walker dated back three decades, and started with Gunnar, the day he walked into the Tauranga Boxing Club gym at the Wharepai Domain. While I haven’t met Craig Thomson face to face, his reputation in a sport populated by sharks, stands him at the head of the integrity list in the professional arm of the sport.

Writing "Wainuiomata to Vegas - The Gunnar Jackson Boxing Journey" was like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle. It wasn’t until all the pieces were in place, that the enormity of Gunnar’s boxing achievements stood out like a beacon.

I would like to thank Gunnar, Chris and Craig Thomson, who all fully embraced the project and gave me the insight to share the Gunnar Jackson boxing journey.
