Hand-written in first diary, probably by original convener Edna Pithie (1914-1971), whose obituary is pasted into the diary:
"First efforts to form a Tauranga Writers’ Club were by a notice in the Bay of Plenty Times which resulted in phone calls from three people. It wasn’t until Mr and Mrs O. Williams of Katikati contacted me through Margaret Robinson, Eastbourne that I thought it worthwhile to form a club. I rang Mrs V. Dowrick who had been a member of New Zealand Women Writers’ Society, and she was interested, also Mrs Betty Coubrough who wished me well. I rang Sylvia Ashton Warner (Mrs K. Henderson) who invited the group for an evening on the novel at her place. I rang Miss Joyce West who subsequently joined our group. I sent letters to various people whose names had been given to me informing them of our first meeting."
