Typed on reverse by Jill Roche "The Nikau sometimes reaches ten metres in height and the leaves four metres in length. This elegant Palm, usually found in thick bush, was utilized by Maori for building huts. The leaves were woven into the roofs of the whares (houses), and these made the buildings surprisingly watertight.
