Alister Hugh Matheson lived from 1925 to 2011. He grew up Ōtūmoetai Pā, and went to school in Ōtūmoetai, then King's College in Auckland. Following service in Canada during World War II, he returned to the family farm in Ōtūmoetai by 1949. Over the years the land was sold, with the remaining two hectares and the remains of the pā sold to Tauranga City Council in 2004. At Alister’s wish the family home was then demolished with the help of Ngāi Tamarawaho hapū. The Ōtūmoetai rail reserve, originally part of Fairview farm, was also returned to public ownership with Alister’s co-operation.CreatorMatheson, Alister Hugh, 1925-2011LevelCollectionLanguageTe Reo MāoriEnglish
