SummaryAfter a long absence of exhibiting locally, Keith Abbott emerges from his studio to reveal a new body of exciting work here in Tauranga. Keith Abbott is well known in the art scene here in Tauranga. A frequent visitor at exhibition openings, he immerses himself in all things creative, and loves to engage in conversation and debate about art. He is a passionate man, and this reflects in his work in a surprising manner. Main Body
With a world view that is extremely inclusive, what he attempts to capture in paint, are delicate and atmospheric contemporary works. After exploring different media, he has finally come to rest with oils on board. He now can achieve the results that he has been visualising.
Working from his studio in Otūmoetai, he continues with themes that he has been exploring for some time; questions of time and place, of belonging and of displacement, of masculinity and femininity. His new work contains multiple silhouettes with subtle painted veils concealing or revealing elements within the painting. Apparent is his strong belief of empty space in art; giving the viewer's eyes time to rest and reflect.
Keith feels that he is finally 'in his flow'. The maturity he is reaching with his work is exciting. Everything: the ideas, the techniques, and content are all coming together with such ease. You can view Keith's new works at the Laundromat Art Project Space, 92 2nd Avenue from August 5-28, or check out his website www.keithabbott.co.nz
