Lance Corporal Andrew Patrick Hughes signed up with the Wellington West Coast Mounted Rifles in his thirties but already had experience in the South African War in his twenties. Andrew had been a Corporal but at his own request was returned to Lance Corporal during a bout of sickness. He passed to his son, Frank Hughes, a photograph album of his WWI years and this was digitised by Tauranga City Libraries Research Collections in 2014.
