SummaryA summary of notes from the 'Greerton School Centennial Jubilee Booklet 1876 - 1976' and the diaries of the 'Macmillan Family.' Main Body When the Greerton township was surveyed, no notice was taken of topography and the surveyed roads went up and down the almost precipitous banks of gullies. Only a few of the roads surveyed were actually formed. A notable part of the development of Greerton was Yatton Park. The land was bought for 11.7.6 pounds per acre. The original house on the land had four rooms and Miss Mansel added a further 8. It was recorded in the Macmillan family diaries that records of the title deed could be found in vol 35, folio 214.5 (Parish of Te Papa book, County). However, the earliest records of the Yatton area won't be found in the volumes of title deeds, as they were drawn up before the registration of title deeds were set up. During the late 1800's and early 1900's there was a significant amount of Yatton land that were transferred to other members of the Mansel Family, John Chadwick and George Hamilton. The original homestead block was held by Miss Mansel until her death, 22 January 1916 and probate was granted to Herbert Mansel on 4 July 1916 and possession taken on 19 March 1918.
