Reference NumberPhoto 02-001DescriptionBaptist Church in Cameron Road, c. 1920s. The church was built in 1911. There is a persistent story that the building was shipped to Tauranga from Ponsonby, but this is not correct, although funds, stained glass windows, 100 chairs, and the front door were Auckland contributions. See Jinty Rorke, "True or False?", Historical Review (Bay of Plenty Journal of History), v33 n2, Nov 1985, p. 122-125.
Published in City views : news from the Tauranga District Council Issue 40, February 2002 in the Past v Present feature.
The Present photo of the building has it used by the Wickham School, sited in 17th Avenue. At time of writing (July 2025) it was in the same place, housing Detour Theatre in the Historic Village.
