Edward John Hatton was born on the 25th of July 1875 at 21 William Street, Kennington Park, Surrey, England. His father was a baker. He had three sisters – Beatrice, Mabel and Florence. He married Martha Minnie Castle in 1902 at Roehampton, Surrey, near London, and they lived at 7 Heythorpe Street, Southfields, London. Edward worked for Minnie’s father as a cabinet maker in the family business, Castle & Sons. The Castle family owned the three story building on the corner at 7 Heythorpe Street, the cabinet-making business being situated on the ground floor. The two upper stories comprised the flat where Minnie and Edward lived after they were married, and where their two oldest children, Nora and Jack were born. Edward married Martha Minnie Castle in Rowhampton, Surrey, in 1902.
