From 'Mount Maunganui 5000 club, Xmas and New Year activities 1950-1951 : souvenir programme' (held at Tauranga Library Sladden Reference Collection 993.421 MOU): "The Mount 5000 Club (Inc.) was formed for two main reasons: - primarily to organise entertainment for the benefit of the many thousands of visitors who come to Mount Maunganui for their holidays, and gradually to use the money obtained from that organised entertainment, to provide addtional amenties for you - the visitor.
