The guns used in the famous attack on the Gate Pah are preserved in the Redoubt, Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, and form an interesting relic of one of the most sanguinary battles of the Māori Wars. On April 29, 1864, a large British force attacked the Gate Pah, near Tauranga, and were repulsed with great loss. During the night, however, the natives abandoned the pah, and left it in the hands of their enemies. Acc. No. 2047
