Date19 November 1969Reference NumberPhoto gca-18565DescriptionThe Royal New Zealand At Force Canberra aircraft pictured above made brief touch-down at the Tauranga Airport yesterday afternoon. Piloting the aircraft on a training flight was the commanding officer of the RNZAF's strike wing, Group Captain H. G. Moss, who made the landing at Tauranga as a practice "short-field landing." Also at the airport yesterday, but not associated with the Canberra was a survey team of four officers from the RNZAF and the Civil Aviation division of the Ministry of Transport. A RNZAF public relations officer in Wellington told the Bay of Plenty Times today that the survey team was investigating possible sites for navigation beacons that would be used by. the RNZAF's next combat, aircraft, the Skyhawks. The survey group had been in the South Island and was now checking through the North Island, he said. The two RNZAF officers in the group are Flight Lieutenants G. Waugh and R. D. Naulls. With them are Dr Robb and Mr Patten from the Civil Aviation Division. They are travelling in RNZAF Devon aircraft.
