Hughes, who lives on State Highway Two near the Te rereatūkahia Stream, was interested to watch her specimen of agave sisalana shoot from its height of about five feet for the post seven years to a startling 20ft in a few weeks from early September. This picture was taken soon before it was cut down because it became entangled in overhead wires, with Mrs Hughes and her daughter Susan admiring it.
