DescriptionIn 2011 Maungatapu School's Room 13 (year's 2 & 3) wrote poetry in reaction to the Rena disaster. The poetry and posters appeared in a window display at Tauranga City Library.

Thump! Thump! As the Rena's
Cargo Crashes on to shore
With the oil covered animals
Suddenly reporters rush to the scene to
Get the best shot.
Hundreds of people volunteering in a flash, but only 3 quarters get to help.
Our Mount beach is closed due
To all of the oil all over our clean beaches.
As the Rena's stern rocking side to side
In the waves while our navy is trying
To hold it in place.
Why did this have to happen this summer.
