DescriptionIn 2011 Maungatapu School's Room 13 (year's 2 & 3) wrote poetry in reaction to the Rena disaster. The poetry and posters appeared in a window display at Tauranga City Library.
What am I?
Smoothly I sail in the salty seas,
Red, blue, yellow steely, tough containers.
Deep and split is my hull,
Stuck I am on the reef's rocky, sharp edges.
Sinking in crashing and smashing wild waves,
Oil pouring from my boiling engines.
Rolling and tilting, twisting and writhing,
Wrecking the shimmering, golden sands of Mount Maunganui.
Ashamed am I.
