Case Study: The template architecture within Pae Korokī, Tauranga Archives Online
Collection SummaryTauranga City Libraries’ Heritage and Research team manages an archive and has a healthy digitisation project underway. These digital surrogates are preserved through a separate process and access versions generated for the website Pae Korokī: Tauranga Archives Online. Pae Korokī, in addition to being an access point for archive surrogates, is our archive catalogue and collection management system and a platform for storytelling. The site is open to community contributions.
In response to the curiosity and questions from other institutions, we took the initiative to document our template architecture more comprehensively. We're pleased to introduce a detailed case study that dives deep into the back-end mechanics of Pae Korokī, hosted on the Recollect platform. The document consists of over 30 pages of narrative and an additional 60 pages of appendices outlining specific template settings.
The case study moves from a high-level overview to the more granular and practical, covering the following:
1. The tools from which templates, the containers of metadata, are fabricated
2. How the grouping of templates into hierarchically layered families has set up Pae Korokī to provide good structure for discovery and collection management
3. The ordering and arrangement of fields into groups within each template
4. The settings chosen for template fields and why
The case study is available to existing Recollect customers only, or by prior arrangement. It requires a Pae Korokī log-on, preferably using an email address from your institution. Please contact us at research@tauranga.govt.nz to request access. Once granted the case study will be visible to you below, as long as you are logged in.
