SummaryA pioneering photographer in Tauranga in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After her husband's death, she supported her family through her photography and ran "Westcliffe", her residence at 107 Wharf Street in Tauranga, as a boarding house.

Family life: Born in London, Mary travelled to New Zealand with Mrs Adair, her aunt. Moving to Tauranga in 1891 with her husband Thomas Mace Humphreys, he died five years later, and to support their three children Mary took in boarders and advertised photographic services.
Photographic work included:
- Postcard series
- Photo album for Duchess of York, produced in 1901 with Mrs Maxwell (The Elms) to commemorate Duke and Duchess' visit to Rotorua.
- Weekly News article 9 October 1901 on a Whakaari eruption (visiting caused her blouse sleeves to disintegrate).
Organisations included: Anglican Church, Mission to Seamen.
