Stewart, George Vesey Junior, 1861-1892 (Person)
SummaryGeorge Vesey Stewart (Junior) was born 1861 in Ballygawley, Ireland, to George Vesey and Margaret Torrens Stewart (née Miller).
The family immigrated to New Zealand aboard the ship Carisbrooke Castle, arriving in Auckland 8 September 1875, then moving to Katikati, where George V. Stewart (Senior) founded a settlement.
George Jnr married Cecilia Isabella Anderson on 5 March 1890, at St Peter's Anglican Church, Katikati. They had three children: Daisy Cecilia Stewart (1890-1953), Erin (Bubbles) Sophia Stewart (1892-1984), and Georgina Frances Stewart (1893-1990).
On 23 July 1892, George drowned in a boating accident near the Katikati Heads (also known as the Bowentown Heads). Cecilia was pregnant with Georgina at the time.
