The new wharekai (dining hall) will be opened the following day by Dame Te Atairangikaahu, the Māori queen.

The construction of the new building began last December with the help of commercial builders and volunteer labour according to local elder, Mr I. K. Tangitu. More than a 1000 people are expected to attend the opening and its associated ceremonies.
