Constructed for modest family living, the cottage exemplifies early colonial architecture with its simple, functional design. Owned by the Beckers family for nearly a century, it was sold to the Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society in the 1960s. In 1972 thanks to a donation by L.J. Dickson. Restored with original features like sash cords, a new chimney, and a porch, it now serves as a reading room and storage facility as part of The Elms Historic Mission.SourcesNew Site for Old Cottage: Bay of Plenty Times 8 June 1972
