Kelston Estate, Tauranga, c.1864- (Place)
SummaryThe old Kelston Estate is located on land taken from Ngāti Kāhu and Ngāti Hangarau (Ngāti Ranginui) after the colonial invasion of Tauranga Moana in 1864. The farm sat between what is today Cambridge Road (Tauriko) and part of Moffit Road, and the Wairoa River near current Kelston Way. Confiscated land was usually sold to settlers or retained by the government. In this instance it was granted to Colonel Harington.
