SummaryWilliam Grant was born on 27 June 1891 at College Hill, Auckland, New Zealand, the son of a Scottish-born shipwright and an English mother who arrived on the Oxford. The family settled in Tauranga about 1900, farming 200 acres near Barkes Corner, Pyes Pā. A self-employed farmer at Gate Pā, he enlisted in the New Zealand Army on 1 July 1918, training at Featherston but not sent overseas. He married Florence Ellen Belk at Tauranga on 6 July 1918. Grant farmed at Ōmanawa and Barkes Road before retiring circa 1958.
