Eldest son of Peter J. H. Munro and Ida Matilda née Rhodes.
Tauranga land agent, orchardist and sportsman. Educated at Tauranga Primary School and King’s College, Auckland. Trained as a chemist before the First World War. Enlisted in July 1915 and served with the New Zealand Medical Corps, attaining the rank of sergeant dispenser. Served on hospital ships and at military hospitals, including overseas service from May 1917 to January 1918. Awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. Returned to New Zealand suffering from acute nephritis contracted on active service and was medically discharged in March 1918. Married Variet Grieve in 1925; she died in 1944, aged 41, leaving him a widower. They had one child. Worked for the State Advances Corporation collecting rentals, then spent many years as a land agent in Tauranga. Took over an 11-acre orchard at Gate Pā and later subdivided it; Munro Street was named through the subdivision. Local interests included shells, orchids, rugby, hockey, rowing, horse racing, big-game fishing and tourist promotion. Played for the 1919 Bay of Plenty rugby team, 1920 Hairini Hockey Club, rowed for Tauranga, bred racehorses from the Vaals line, and served as secretary of the Tauranga Big Game Fishing Club. Founding member and chairman of the Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club.
